  • CBLO (CORA-BASED LEVELLING OSTEOTOMY)
SURGERY FOR A RUPTURED CRUCIATE LIGAMENT

This is one of the surgical methods for treating a ruptured cruciate ligament in dogs. This method allows modification of the tibial plateau without disturbing the structures of the joint. The procedure is planned based on the determination of the CORA (center of rotation and angulation) point, i.e. the intersection of the mechanical axes of the bone.

The technique involves making an incision that gives strong adhesion of the fragments over a long distance, without causing the so-called balcony effect, which allows the bone to heal about 20% faster compared to the TPLO procedure. Recovery after a TPLO procedure takes 8-10 weeks, with CBLO it takes 5-6 weeks in most cases.

This procedure is dedicated to patients with a high TPA angle and is suitable for treating both large and small breed dogs. An additional advantage of CBLO is that it can be performed in growing animals, as the surgery does not interfere with the developing growth cartilage.
The surgical technique, with the proximal fragment of the tibia left larger than in TPLO, is not only a convenience for the surgeon, but also a simultaneous opportunity to correct the dislocation of the patella.
